Curious, how did you integrate sencha touch on the mobile site? Did you actually use Rails formats or did you end up creating a seperate app/controllers for the streamlined mobile view?

i need exactly the same thing as you've implemented, though i dont understand how you'd configure nginx to get an image from s3 server and cache it locally if not available.

What i need is basically:

image requested
 serve from nginx if available
get from s3, save locally and serve from nginx ..

any ideas?

May I ask did you install Linux OS on the SSD array or the HDD array?

Did you put /var/ on SSD or HDD?

If possible, can you also share your my.cnf for this particular setup?

Interesting article! You have obviously done a lot of background research. I am about to set up a new database server and it would be interesting to see some follow up. Have you been running this for a while now in production and what sort of performance improvements have you seen?

Thanks for the post Casey - running MySQL on both SSDs and traditional hard drives sounds like the kind of thing I'm going to be doing very soon, so this is an interesting read.

Hi Jimmy,

Yep - all of our files are already set with the proper headers
directing browsers to cache them forever.

We serve a lot of image-heavy traffic.

I think you need to put cache directives on the files you serve, it could save a lot of money..

Great post--we're on S3 as well, and I imagine as we scale we're going to run into similar issues.

You could also try some local caching, but I guess that depends on browser version.

Do users lose session state on a shutdown?
